Hello, My name is Darcy Carpenter and this is my first semester aand first class with M.Ed Technology here at UTB. I recieved my Bachelors here at UTB in Applied Technology.
I am a Respiratory Therapist and have been for about 25 years. My speciality is infants and children. I currently am the Clinical Supervisor for the Respiratory Program here at UTB. I am just beginning to use technology in the classroom and find it very challenging. I am not not very good at it yet but I do hope these classes will help me gain more skill with it's use. In other words...I am technology challenged!!!! I am not sure if I should admit that but what the heck.
I am married and have one daughter who is 19 years old. She has learning disabilities and hopes to attend a wonderful school for kids with disabilities in San Antonio in January.
Hello again everyone.....I can't seem to get my photo in at this time. I will try again on another day. I have been here for 4 hours and haven't got it yet!

My name is Jesus Alfaro. I work in the data processing department for the Harlingen school district as a system / programmer analyst with Olga. I've been working with Harlingen C.I.S.D. for ten years since I graduated from the University of Texas Pan American in Computer Information Systems (CIS).
I became interest in computers when I started working as lab manager right after discharging from the Navy. While working in the Rio Hondo school district I learned to troubleshoot and fix both computers and networks. This is when I decide I wanted a career in a field that dealt with technology and pursued a CIS major.
I've been married for sixteen years this past July. My wife and I are blessed with three beautiful children, two girls and my youngest a boy. They are eight, four, and three years old. Our evening are filled with extra-curricular activities with our two oldest, they have practice in something about four days out of the week. Luckily I have a very supporting wife who by the way is a lot smarter than I am and got her MLS before we had kids.
I hope achieving my master will open other opportunities within the district or out. I'll wait and see what God has in mind for me.
P.S.
I didn't get dressed up for the picture . Our district has this picture online already, so it was convenient to copy and paste.

Hello, my name is Olga Garcia and is this is my first semester in the M.Ed Technology Program at UTBrownsville. I received my undergraduate degree at UT Pan American in Edinburg. I currently work as a Programmer/System Analyst for the Harlingen CISD. I enjoy technology and the challenges it brings. My goal is to some day be a trainer using different types of technological tools. I enjoy learning and meeting new people. I have three great children and a wonder husband. I have my oldest in college, one in high school and the youngest in middle school. It's been 10 years since I have been to school; therefore, starting again will be challenging.

Hi my name is Pete Luna. I am currently a Job Placement Specialist at South Texas College. I first began my degree in Educational Technology when I worked at a Tutoring/Success Center. I was the “go to” guy for all things related to technology, tutoring, and for training instructors on how to operate instructional technologies such as software programs and other hardware. What sparked my interest in this program was the fact that I was assisting instructors how to use technologies but did not understand how they would use it in the classroom.
I then got in hot water with my supervisor when I made a decision to delete some software lesson plans which I felt were too outdated. After being told that I was not qualified to make such a decision, I decided to get qualified. I am hoping to graduate in the spring semester and am excited to be coming close to the end…. Thanks.

Hello, I'm Eric Pimpler and this is my first semester in the M.Ed Technology program at UT Brownsville. I have a B.S. in Geography from Texas A&M and a Master's degree in Geographic Information Systems from Texas State University. For the past 15 years I have been involved in the application of Geographic Information Systems in private industry including oil and gas, insurance, telecommunications, and electric utilities. I am currently the GIS Manager for Valero Energy in San Antonio, TX where I am responsible for the implementation of GIS, GPS, and field technologies for the company. In addition, I also own a small GIS training company, GeoSpatial Training Services (http://www.geospatialtraining.com and http://geochalkboard.wordpress.com). We have provided e-learning courses in GIS since 2005 and our clients have included a wide variety of private and public organizations. Most recently we have developed a number of instructor guided Internet courses based on Moodle technology centered around Google Earth, Google Maps, and ArcGIS technologies, and we also developed an Internet course for internal use at Google, Inc. Since 2003 I have also been an adjunct instructor of GIS at San Antonio College where I teach various GIS courses. Over the course of the last year I have migrated most of my courses to a blended course format with lecture and supplemental materials being taught through Blackboard, and in class lab times scheduled for once per week. On a personal note, I have been married to my wife Shanon for the past 15 years and we have two children, Whitney (10) and Lizzie (5), and are expecting a new addition to the family late this year. A boy this time!

Hello everyone. It looks like I am a bit behind in introducing myself. So, here goes. I am (obviously) your instructor for EDTC 6320. I think this is probably the first course in your program, and I want to welcome you to the ed tech program.
This is my seventh semester teaching this course and it is one of my favorites because I can introduce everyone to some new technologies that are being used in industry and education today. I come from a background in 8-12 - as an English and journalism teacher in high school for eight years, a middle school counselor for four and a CTE counselor for 5 years. The last three years I was a CTE counselor, I was also the project director for a technology grant from the Department of Education. I decided after the grant that I wanted to move to higher ed and work more with teachers who want to know how to use technology for learning. This is, indeed, my dream job.
I am the director of the Master Technology Teacher program and I have a blast each semester teaching those courses also. When I am not working (which is very seldom), I spend time reading and --hmmm, sleeping? These days, that's about all I have time to do.
I hope everyone has a great semester and I look forward to getting to know you better.
