  • Read the Reflection Rubric.
  • Read the Scenario.
  • Think about what you understand to be true and the reasons for those ideas about the scenario (prior knowledge). Upload your prior knowledge reflection to your Portfolio in ESSEA for a grade.
  • Post your understandings in your Discussion Space.
  • Review the sample investigations and resources.
  • Read your teammates' postings and respond to at least one other person's ideas in Discussion Space.

Explanation of your reasoning

Lists of things I know

Global warming is an issue that is prominent.

News, TV, newspapers.

Weather changes can be felt locally.

Cold weather conditions have been prolonged.

News, TV, newspapers.

The upper states have had harsher weather

Climate change can cause harsher weather including hurricanes.

The intensity and the number of hurricanes have increased, living in an area prone to hurricanes.

Researching material for an ESS Analysis on the Galveston Hurricane.

Dryer and rising temperatures will cause more moisture evaporation in the soil.

Living through a drought in the area.

Supported by the ESSEA reading material.

Dry soil can lead to soil erosion.

ESS Analysis on the Dust Bowl.

Climate change has its effect on land and bodies of water, it is all dependent on one another.

Abrupt climate change may be harsh for living things to adapt to.

Living through a drought, living things are struggling to survive, and vegetation can die off before being able to adapt.

Whether it be cold weather, drought, or flooding, living things including humans will battle adjusting to abrupt climate change.

List of things I know I don’t know:

I  am not aware of any other sources of heat that may effect the conveyor belt that may come from the ocean itself.

According to the background material, the conveyor belt can be disturbed with thermal changes and fluctuations of salinity.

If freshwater can effect the conveyor belt, so can heat sources emitted from the ocean.

I do not know if the conveyor belt will stop or just change course in the event of severe climate change.

I cannot imagine the conveyor belt coming to halt, but rather changing course.

Be it changing course or slowing it will still create climate change.

I do not know how much of an impact humans can have in trying to prevent from abrupt climate change becoming severe.

All living things will have to adjust to climate change.

Adapting to the climate in my area is my personal experience with climate change.

List of things I wonder about

I wonder how the ozone layer effects climate change.

All the spheres are interconnected and effect each other.

The ozone layer protects us from solar radiation.

I wonder about the impact of climate change on living things and habitats in the ocean and if it is affected as significantly as is on land.

I would assume that marine life and habitat is as much in disarray as life on land.

Marine life and habitat will have an impact on climate change as well.
