Julian Moron Project 2 Part A - Mission Statement

As a master teacher of technology my mission is to educate students and teachers in the proper uses of technology in order to be successful in school.  This includes using the latest technology available to achieve academic goals.

Julian Moron Project 3 Part 1 - My Definition of Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is a term used to refer to the second generation of the internet.  This new generation relies on the collaboration and sharing between users.  This is a great way for teachers to share ideas or to simply publish students' work online.  This is all possible through social-networking sites, wikis, blogs, and podcasts.

 Kay Groves - Mission Statement:

to remain mindful that Multimedia Integration Strengthens  Skills and Influences Outcome Needed in the 21st century.

Kay Groves

Web 2.0 is an umbrella covering a wide range of innovative web technologies and tools that offer an open approach to the Internet with consumer-generated media and user-generated content.  Many believe web applications will replace desktop application in near future, as rich Internet applications (RIA) offer everything an application does but resides in the web and doesn’t require upgrades, patches, etc.

Luis Vazquez - Project 2 Part A: Mission Statement

Our mission is to address the deficiency of multimedia, or interactive, components and resources within an educational or learning environment by taking advantage of the technological advances currently available, thus empowering educators to provide their pupils with rich multimedia-based content which will give them the technological tools necessary to succeed in their future endeavors.  These multimedia-based tools, and subsequent presentations, will build on the existing technological skills that the latest generations of students possess.

Scott Amdahl (EDTC6340) Mission Statement:

"Learners evolve and so must our schools.  As part of our evolution, and to meet the learning needs of our students, we will strive to ensure that our students will be prepared to create, innovate, communicate, collaborate, solve problems, and contribute in a global society as digital citizens."

Scott Amdahl Web 2.0 Definition:

The Interent is no longer just a place to find and put information. The modern Internet, A.K.A. "Web 2.0" is a place to create, collaborate, engage, and participate in a world-wide "knowledge network".

Armando Arechiga - Mission Statement - To use technology as a means to facilitate and accelerate meaning, understanding and experience in the educational process.

Web 2.0 to me is a generic term that means a website has a level of "interactivity", a level that goes beyond the simple clicking on a hyperlink to reveal a new web page.  Web 2.0 has an interaction where the user is adding to or actually creating the content on a particular site.  By this definition you might include the most primitive of bulliten board services or newsgroups that predate the web.  Cleary, these are not what we mean by  Web 2.0. While some "web 2.0" sites are still basically storing user input into databases and serving requested pages, other "real 2.0" websites allow a more integrated access, to the websites core technology via application programmer interfaces (API).  On this level, the user is not just creating new content, but recombining the  "tools" of the website to create new functions in unexpected ways.  New websites are created everyday that combine APIs from more than one website in what are now called "mashups". My definition of Web 2.0 would be having access not just to the final display or output of a website, but access to the functionality or processing power of the website's programming structure and its server's computing power.

Veronica BacaTo tackle the impact of technology has upon our society; teachers, students, and the community must take extraordinary measures to meet the challenges of accessing technology tools and resources.  Integration and engagement are the keys to success and all individuals involved must collaborate in allowing students to become technological learners.

Veronica Baca:

Defining Web 2.0:

The definition Tim O’Reily (YouTube) in defining Web 2.0 as a “web as a platform”; may be too vague and probably needs further explanation.  According to Josh Charles from UMKC School of Education, Web 2.0 is not new technology but a change in the old technology with new applications.  Web 2.0 is based on two important aspects: collaboration and communication.  Applications such as wikis, blogs, and social networking are a few of the new added tools to Web 2.0.

Web 2.0 is also changing in the field of education by enhancing new methods of learning through the use of Web 2.0 applications, such as sharing notes through a social networking site.  Students are able to share and communicate school work by chatting online to their classmates for understanding.  Web 2.0 has enhanced the World Wide Web by allowing users to publish or provide feedback on important concepts through blogging, podcasting, and wikis for others to view and comment (O’Hear, S. & MacManue, R., 2006).  O’Reily(2007) does make an important point that users add value to old technology to enhance the value of new technology.  For example, using the tool Kodak which only allows uploading photos and print, while using Flickr which allows users to upload, print, and enhance images or make changes, and share photos.   Web 2.0 is changing the internet and the way individuals are able to use the newer applications to benefit personally and educationally.

Tammy O'Berry-Koons (EDTC6340) Mission Statement: To provide 21st century learners with the technology tools necessary to be creative, to be communicative and to be explorative so that they develop virtual literacy and become the critical thinkers of tomorrow.

Tammy O'Berry-Koons (EDTC6340) Definition of Web 2.0:  Web 2.0 is a current platform of web-based networking tools “without a hard boundary, but, rather a gravitational core” that allows members of society to create, to communicate and to explore collaboratively while also allowing for the expression of individualization and promotion of autonomy; it is a platform of web-based networking tools reflecting upon the current state of and need for societal interaction, and it will in all likelihood evolve into a different platform of tools to adapt to changes in societal structure (O’Reilly, 2005).

To empower educators as facilitators by providing effective technology support with seamless integration of technology into the classroom to create 21st century learners.

What is Web 2.0?

Web 2.0 is the evolution or upgrade of the world wide web as we know it.  Web 2.0 is a more interactive and interconnected web. Software that is considered Web 2.0 is not "a packaged software, but one with new releases and continous improvement." We think of the internet as a source of information, but it has become more than that. It is now a place where people all over the world can create, share and collaborate through the use of wikis, blogs and podcasts.

Rebecca McKinley

Mission Statement - Project 2A

The mission is to enable students to compete and find employment in a competitive and technologically driven society. This will be done primarily through utilizing technology rich teaching and training, using current and varied technology, providing basic skills training, continually training instructors, and by using varied and rich practices.

Web 2.0 - Project 3.1

Web 2.0 differs from Web 1.0 in that it is dynamic, able to change and to be changed by creators and users, and it is not just be a "printed" page produced by a creator and uploaded for viewing. However, most users don't even realize there is a difference, just that sites are more user friendly and specific to their needs and views. The World Wide Web has changed from a viewing/reading tool to a viewing/reading/sharing/reviewing/organizing/creating tool. A form is created and then users are able to fill the content. Examples of forms are wikis, blogs, tags, bookmarking sites, photo sites, and podcasts. The users open the form, insert their data, and then publish it for sharing.

A great example of Web 2.0 was born from the idea that it is possible to create a community that is updated and maintained by the users.

"Well, I have been knitting and blogging for a few years now and Casey has had to listen to me complain from time to time about how difficult it was to find concise information about patterns and yarns on the web. I would be searching for the right pattern to go with a specific gauge/ yarn that I have in my stash or looking for a good alternative yarn to make that perfect cardigan. I would spend COUNTLESS hours scouring Google, Flickr, knitblogs, and knitalong sites for a photo of someone's finished garment, trying to decipher what yarn was used and adjustments that were made. Most of the time these searches ended in frustration and I was fed up! What drove me crazy was that the information and knowledge was out there in our community but there was no clear method of finding it. As it is often discussed, knitting and crochet has just exploded in popularity over the past few years and we simply cannot sift through all the available information to find great patterns and yarns. No one has the time to read all the blogs in the world. So, we thought, "Wouldn't it be great if there was a place where you could organize your projects, stash and tools and at the same time help you find people with similar taste and interests? Couldn't this website provide a single location in which to search for pattern and yarn information from many different producers and publishers?" The answer, obviously, is yes." (Jessica, 2007).

Thus Ravelry.com was born. Casey (a.k.a. Code Monkey), has created a the frame for an online knitting community, and thousands of knitters add patterns, photos, details, yarns, discussions, etc.  Users log in, view and add projects, yarn, search for patterns, ask questions, send messages, etc. The users are the moderators, the editors, and the beneficiaries of the content added to the site.
