Design for Literacy


SYMBOLS:  The sign that students will become most familiar with is the dollar sign ($). Students will have a better understanding of what life will be like outside of high school.  They will learn the differences between what a want is , and what a need is.

 

DISCOURSE: Students will be participating in a simulation of what their life will be like after high school.  They will face unexpected situations that they must decided on how to handle.  Students will then take a reality check and create a personal lifestyle budget (http://www.cdr.state.tx.us/realitycheck/).

 

COGNITIVE PROCESS:  While the students are participating in the simulation and the reality check they will see things from a different point of view.  They can then make better informed decisions about the things that they need or want out of life, and how to go about achieving their goals.
