The FACTS Model: A Summary
The Facts Model of Design is an interactive five-step process that guides a teacher through the planning and development of learning opportunities for all students.
The F is for Foundations
In the first step in the Facts Model of Design, the foundation for student learning is set by defining core knowledge and supporting skills.
The A is for Activity
The second piece of the puzzle deals with designing cognitive activities that are challenging to students and offer an opportunity for discovery and problem solving.
The C is for Content
The next section concerns content or standards, which are often set by state agencies. Contents are clear goals that each student must successfully complete.
The T is for Tools
Tools allow students to interact with content and develop knowledge. Tools are chosen carefully to promote learning and are aligned to contents and activities.
The S is for Systems of Assessment
With assessments, students can show their understanding. They are held responsible for their own learning through a variety of assessments, such as rubrics and portfolios.
