Week 7 - Spicing up the classroom

Page history last edited by Linda Newell 12 years, 6 months ago

Learning Activity Summary

Readings

This week you will read:

  • Module 7
  • Web 2.0 survey shows....

Seminar

You will attend a seminar that will discuss learning related to a current article on Web 2.0 and the classroom as well as an overview of this week's assignments.

Introduction

It is always nice to switch gears, is it not? Humans enjoy variation, whether it be clothing, entertainment, hairstyles, or cuisine. The same holds true for the Web 2.0 classroom and its "consumers."

This week yet another "kewl tool" will be introduced with the opportunity to explore and create a mini-project. While you are having fun "spicing up the classroom", think of how your students will react. What would their reaction be if this venue was used for a warm-up or maybe even the lesson of the day? Or, better yet, how much fun would they have if they were able to use it to create a product of their own learning? One might say that might be both the sprinkles AND the cherry!

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyze and evaluate how another Web 2.0 tool could be used to support instruction in the classroom
  • Create a product that demonstrates the effectiveness of this tool with regard to engaging and motivating students
  • Begin to think in terms of the final project for this course and how, once again, this "collage" of programs can be used to create a dynamic force for instructional support

At this point in the semester, we are halfway through. In honor of this milestone, you will now be given a "peek" at the Web 2.0 vehicle for the final project for this course. The final Web 2.0 technology you will be introduced to is Vuvox. Vuvox is a multimedia tool that will be used to incorporate all the other tools you have used this term. Check out the gallery.(Be sure to watch for the hotspots!)

The final showcase for your learning will be a collage type portfolio using this online application. A great set of tutorials can be found here (first four by R. Good.) Take some time getting acquainted with this program. You will be asked to upload audio, video, images, and descriptions of your work and your classroom experiences with it. A more succinct to do list will be given in week 10.
