1. Team Assignments Read the Knowledge Building Rubric.

We have read the knowledge building rubric and have discussed how we will try to increase our rubric rating to the next level of analysis.

2. Brainstorm a list of questions you think you need to answer to understand the scenario.

•Raul Gracia A - What does the current data show regarding ocean temperatures and a possible cooling period?

•Raul Gracia B - What is the story behind the cooling period of 8200 years ago?

•Shannon A – What can we do to prevent the ocean conveyor from collapsing?

•Shannon B – What could happen if the ocean conveyor collapses? What will happen to our earth if it does?

•Jose A – What role do oceans play in climate changing?

•Jose B – How does chemical interaction affect the ocean conveyor belt?

•Patricia A – How does global warming affect the Ocean Conveyor Belt?

•Patricia B – How does global warming affect the oceans ecosystems?

•Gladys A –How does temperature affect the density of the currents?

•Gladys B - How is marine life affected by the Conveyor Belt?

3. Post your questions in Discussion Space. (post to wiki - Shannon)

Questions and Research have been posted in the following page:  http://butleratutb.pbworks.com/w/page/47887719/Great%20Ocean%20Research.

4. Review your teammates' questions.

In this assignment our team has chosen to contribute asynchronously via email and wiki to provide questions and devise a plan to investigate the scenario further.

5. List the key questions and plan how to investigate them as a team.

Possible Key Questions:

We have decided to divide the questions up equally. Each team member will research their questions and post their findings to our group wiki page by midnight, Saturday, November 26. The answers will be emailed to Shannon and she will post them to the wiki by Sunday at 9 am. After this task is completed we will then upload our findings individually on the ESSEA site.

** We will also find hands on lesson ideas - videos, field studies, books, journal articles, websites, etc. to support our answers.

6. List answers to your questions as you build knowledge together.

Answers to the questions have been posted by each individual team member in the scenario research page and we have also compiled a master file that will be uploaded by each of us to the ESSEA course module Cycle A Team Assignment.

7. By the end of the cycle, develop a team problem statement and post it in Discussion Space.

Possible Problem Statement (Raul Gracia) - After researching and compiling expert and critical data analysis on the possibility of abrupt climate change that could lead to a significant cooling period and detraction of the Great Ocean Current, our team will present data to bring to light the possibility of more frequent and intense weather patterns that could greatly affect the United States and human’s carrying capacity of the environment.

Possible Conclusion (Raul Gracia) - Our team has concluded that due to gradual global warming as a yearly occurrence, the Great Ocean Conveyor Belt will go through a period of slowing or complete stopping which will adversely affect the weather patterns in the United States and human's ability to sustain the environment.

Possible Problem Statement (Patricia Ramirez)

After analyzing various amounts of research about the Ocean Conveyor belt our team will demonstrate how global warming effects the ecosystems within during the seasonal fluctuations of heating and cooling periods in the ocean.

Possible Conclusion (Patricia Ramirez)

In light of current research and recent global events such as Coral Reefs dying and displacements of various species of marine animals, our team has concluded that global warming has a

detrimental impact on the marine ecosystems which cause a domino effect on other systems as well. Our team has also noted that these environmental impacts are connected to the increase of CO2 emissions that contribute to global warming.

Possible Problem Statement (Shannon Reynolds)

After more research about global warming and the ocean conveyor is there a way to prevent the damage of global warming toward our weather and environment?

Possible Problem Statement (Jose Correa)

After researching and analyzing global warming data our team will demonstrate the impact that Glogal Warming has in relation to Earth and the Environment.

8. Upload assignment to your Portfolio (ESSEA) for a grade.

After compiling all of the information into one file, our team assignment will be uploaded by each individual member into their own ESSEA Portfolio by the due date.
