Week 10 - Making awesome PREZI-tations! (Sp2012)

Page history last edited by Linda Newell 12 years ago

Introduction

This semester we have focused upon several different ways to present information using a variety of interesting tools. A "new" twist on the traditional electronic presentation stage is a program called Prezi. Juxtaposed to the interactive, non-linear style of this presentation tool, is the storyboard, which is almost required in order to take full advantage of Prezi's delivery method.

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyze and demonstrate an appropriate approach to creating a presentation using a storyboard.

  • Analyze and demonstrate an appropriate approach to creating a presentation using an interactive format.

  • Evaluate products designed to demonstrate the effectiveness of this tool with regard to engaging and motivating students
  • Create a product that is reflective of good teaching practices for your classroom

Reading

Seminar

  • Option 1 - You will attend a seminar that will discuss assignments for the upcoming week.  Access to Meeting of the Minds is via the collaborate tool in Blackboard.

  • Option 2 – This option is to provide flexibility in meeting the scheduled portion of the course. If selected, your assignment is to listen to the archived seminar and then write a 350+ word synopsis, including your own responses, to each of the questions posed during the meeting. All APA formatting and citations conventions are to be followed (see syllabus).

Because of the time sensitive nature of the information given during our seminar time, this assignment is to be received no later than the Thursday following the seminar meeting date. The synopsis is to be emailed to your instructor and timestamped by midnight. Papers received after Thursday will be accepted until the Sunday of the course closing for this week with a 20% deduction. After midnight, papers will no longer be accepted.

Your grade for attendance will be predicated upon the following rubric:

Weekly Assignment

Part one:

Honestly, the best way to describe a Prezi is to simply watch one--

Part two:

Liked what you saw above? Great! The very best presentations (and Prezies) follow a "map" or storyboard. Take some time to become familiar with them by reviewing the readings for this unit.

To do-

Your grade will be predicated upon the following:

To do

Points

Reflect back to your blog and the iterative presentation made for the copyright unit.

Create a storyboard that redesigns this presentation (with Prezi-capabilities in mind) for another audience - your students.  It may be created on the computer with one of the templates in the readings, one you find on your own, or may be your own design. Be sure to embody the same suggestions that Burmark gave in her book in this new format. It is expected that the storyboard will be very specific and explain exactly what will happen and how the presentation should look. In other words, someone should be able to recreate the Prezi based upon your storyboard. Do not forget to cite borrowed work and media in the appropriate APA format.

Save your document and upload it to the wiki. Post a link to your uploaded document here. (Note: If you choose to create the storyboard by hand rather than on a computer, convert it to an electronic format for uploading by scanning before submission. Be sure it is one long document, rather than a series of discrete pages.)
