This is me, Dr. Butler, with my cat Bigs.  He is, in a word, BIG. He is however, much older than in the photo and I have thousands and thousands more gray hairs.  I have 2 other stray cats and one rescue dog.  And, we welcome one and all to class this semester.  This is my ninth year of teaching at UTB - wow! Time flies. And my 25th year in the education profession.  My father was a math teacher, and I always thought that there is a teaching gene that I inherited because I love teaching.  All the paperwork and administrative stuff, not so much.  I moved to the college, thinking that I could make a larger difference by teaching teachers and have thoroughly enjoyed working with graduate students and educators.  You are the ones who are going to make all the difference in education - indeed, already are. I just finished working on a grant in which I helped take 120 students through the Master Technology Teacher certification program - so I wasn't teaching the "other" ed tech courses. I am glad to be back on board and look forward to working with all of you this semester.  Can't wait to see what you will do!!!!!

Hi! My name is Jennifer Henson. I've been in the educational publishing business for 20+ years. My passion is e-learning and educational games. I've always been interested in helping teachers reach students that are at risk of falling through the cracks for one reason or another. I currently help high school students in unconventional situations get their high school diploma online via the University of Texas at Austin. Actually, now as throughout the rest of my career, I work behind the scenes developing materials for students and teachers. I'm the Curriculum Program Coordinator for the UT Online High School. I also have my own company that handles a range of e-learning projects. I'll finish my Master’s Degree in Educational Technology and E-Learning Certification next semester. I live in Austin with my 19 year old son, husband, and border collie. I look forward to meeting you all!

Greetings! My name is Juan Saldana.  I am in the last 3rd of my Masters program and God willing I should be done next May. Unlike a lot of my colleagues I have never worked the education field, I am an Information Technology professional by trade.

I have been working in the IT field for the last 12 years and earned my Bachelor's in Computer Science here at UTB.  I enjoy learning new software and hardware and am now learning how to apply these skills to the learning environment.

My goal with this degree is to be able to build a learning system for end to end, from the technology to the interface for the learner.

I look forward to working with all of you and learning from your experiences as I hope you can learn from me.  Let's have a great semester...

My full name is Norma Iris Rodriguez and I am currently employed as the Certification Evaluator for the University of Texas – Pan American’s Teacher Education Program. I have worked with UTPA for over 6 years in various positions within the College of Education. My current position entails approving our students for certification exams, recommending them for their certification after program completion, and submitting state/federal reports about our program.

I am originally from Mission, TX and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. I worked briefly for the Upward Bound program at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, TX after graduation but accepted a position at UTPA in 2007 to be closer to my family.

I am pursuing a M.Ed degree in Educational Technology and if all goes well, I should be completing this program Spring 2014. Eventually I would like to work closely with faculty as an instructional designer to create meaningful online learning environments.

Hi! I'm Maria Austin. I'm a teacher of English as a foreign language with fifteen years of experience in the field. I have always been interested in the use of technology for teaching. This led me to pursue a master’s degree in educational technology. Within educational technology, I am particularly interested in games, gamification and mobile learning applications.

I am now down to three classes in the M. Ed. in Educational Technology and expect to graduate next year. I am looking forward to sharing this semester with all of you and, certainly, to learning from our wonderful instructor.

Hello. I am Jackie Byford. I am married to a Navy disabled veteran and I have 5 beautiful girls, 23, 19, 18, 17, & 13. This is my eighth year of teaching middle school Mathematics in Klein ISD. This is my second Master's Degree through the University of Texas system. I am interested in creating a classroom environment with the use of technology to engage and challenge my students. When I am not in graduate school or teaching I like to play with my kids in the pool, driving my 2012 Challenger, reading Science Fiction/Fantasy, and take long rides with my husband on his Harley.

I am coming to end of the MTT/e-learning program and should graduate Spring 2014. My goal is to share all the great technology tools and teaching strategies I have learned in the program with my team and eventually become part of the district Technology team to help all Klein ISD teachers integrate technology. Although, I am not quite ready to leave the classroom and the interaction with my classroom students.

Hello. I am Edward Gutierrez.  I have been married for 20 years to my wife Jane.

Hello everyone! My name is Katy Young Lu. I am originally from Taipei Taiwan and reside in Houston Texas with my family for more than two decades. This is my fourth semester towards completing my graduate degree in Educational Technology. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development & Family Studies from Colorado State University. Cognitive learning is one of my favorite subjects in study. To be honest, I have no clue what “Selected topics” is before I enrolled to EDTC 6329. When I discovered the special topics for this course is Brain-based learning I was excited and expected to discuss this interesting subject of Brain Rules with you all in this semester. Like many of you, I am expecting to graduate in May 2014. I haven’t decided which professional field I will be involved in. But one thing for sure is I have learned and been professionally trained in the study of Educational Technology. Besides study hard, my spare time activities are digital photography, graphic design, music, poetry, reading, writing ( I am a freelance writer for World Journal), gardening, cooking, exercise, and travel (travel used to be my job – I was a flight attendant and assistant Purser for China Airlines, based in Taipei). It’s a pleasure to meet you all.

Hello everyone! My name is Adam Hovde and this is hopefully my final semester in the EDTC program. Fingers crossed that I will graduate this December. I am a Physics teacher at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas. I have taught physics for the past 12 years. I really enjoy working with students in the classroom but I think it might be time to move over to a more teacher supportive role in teaching. My district has Design Specialists and I hope to apply for this position next year. I recently past the MTT and would like to thank Dr. Butler for all of her help getting me prepared for that test. I am looking forward to collaborating with everyone this semeser.

Hello my fellow mateys! My name is Jaime Villanueva and I currently work for UTB Career Services department. I have been with Career Services for over four years and basically what I do is help students create their first resume and find full time employment. I was recently, elected the new UTB Staff Senate President and the first order of business was to create the first endowment ever for staff senate.  This endowment will help our staff members and their children with their higher education future goals monetarily. I came to realization last night that my plate is quite full this semester as I am currently enrolled in two courses this semester, staff president and with a full time job not to mention full time  fix it dad at home.

After this semester, I only have two courses left to finish my master’s degree and I am excited to work with all of you this semester and let's have a great semester mateys!

Hi!  This is Shaila. I am an Algebra teacher originally from Austin. I am not working at the moment but wish to when I complete my EdTech degree. I am very grateful for this online learning opportunity as it allows me to pursue my dream. In the past I have tried to complete on-campus graduate degree twice, but failed due to frequent relocations. My husband's job requires that we move (cities/ countries/ continents :D ) every 2-3 years.

My husband and I live in Singapore with our three children. Singapore is a very safe but 'sterile' city to live in. I like to explain it as "a cross between the Disney World and NYC- but much smaller". Although I am not in love with Singapore (yet!) our experience living here (since August 2012) has been mostly positive.

Living overseas has opened up so many opportunities for us to work, travel and to get to know other cultures and meet new people. On my free time I like to read, watch movies and play with my kids.  At our last posting to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia I  taught Refugee children from Afghanistan as a part of the UNHCR volunteer program.  My experience of teaching refugees has been very rewarding and I plan to continue working with them in the near future. I hope this new era of e-learning benefits learners from post-conflict situations as well as traditional learners.

I look forward to collaborate with you all and learn from each other.

Hi Everybody, My name is Richard Wilson.  I've had classes with several of you before and am looking forward to working with you again.  This endeavor is an entirely separate and new career for me.  For my first 30 years of working, I've been developing stuff for the computer or music industry.  My comrades were frequently borrowing my documentation to use in meetings to explain how my things worked. I enjoyed that teaching part of the design process, so, I'm taking a stab at professionally helping in education.  We (my wife, kids, dogs) live about 70 miles north of Austin in a small community called Harker Heights.

Hi there!  I'm Jeff Blackman - that's me on the right hand side.  My son and I were just in Shrek The Musical where he was Young Shrek (he's on the left) and I was Papa Ogre.  It was lots of fun.

Professionally, I work as a Senior O.D. Training Specialist for the Houston Methodist Hospital System.  I design and develop online training and also help with the administration of our learning management system.

I'm looking forward to the semester and adding lots of new knowledge that will help me in my career.

Hi my name is Ernie Perez. I am a self employed technology consultant. I am currently on my second to last semester in the technology program. Eager to learn new materials and make new friends.
